lyrics

Called himself
Junkyard Picasso
Welded like Pollock
Ran the Magnet
At the scrapyard
Made folk-art

Wasn’t born as much as he fell out
We bonded over The Clash
Used to eat bologna and mustard
He was short on cash

“The roosters ain't sellin’ kid
Nor the fish, or the oil-can-man
So I ‘bought’ a few antiques”
Winking from his skid-steer tan

Called himself
Junkyard Picasso
But welded like Pollock
Ran the Magnet
At the scrapyard
Made folk-art

Metal was his higher calling
He served at the church of rust
“Love thy neighbor and thy customer
And mind your dust”

When he got sick we never knew it
No services held
I don’t know what you think success is
But I cherish that shaky weld

I call him Junkyard Picasso
His welds were perfect to me
His vision never compromised
His life was always free
